Thanks to Lasha, our brilliant guide for taking us safely through the delights of the Transcaucasus trail and to Joseph our lovely driver. I think we were blessed to be there in July, the weather was great and we were absolutely blown away by the stunning wild flower show on the hillsides on the days leading up to Ushguli. The guest houses were welcoming and cosy and had everything needed. There was only one long drive on the return to Tbilisi which wasnā€™t bad as we stopped for a tasty lunch. On the way out the journey was broken up by several interesting cultural visits. The Svetitskhoveli Cathedral is stunning. I wish Iā€™d booked an extra day at the beginning of the trip to enjoy Tbilisi, it looks well worth the extra time.

The trip lived up to expectations on the whole. I think we were extremely lucky going in July as the wild flower meadows were at their peak and were absolutely breath taking in colour, variety of flowers and volume. The homestays were more comfortable than I expected and the hospitality was warm and friendly. Lasha, our guide, was great fun and friendly. We had some rain but not enough to be a problem, most of the walking were in very warm, humid conditions. Vegetarians be aware the food choice is extremely limited and all meals mainly consist of bread, eggs, cheese, tomatoes and cucumber. Some of the walks finished early afternoon and there is nothing to do around some of the homestays so be prepared with books etc. On the whole a very memorable and thoroughly enjoyable trip

Wonderful hiking in the Svaneti region in Georgia with the backdrop of the Caucasus mountain range, the hospitality of the village guesthouses, and support of our fantastic guide and driver.
