There are plenty of things to do in Croatia as August is still brimming with life in the heat of summer. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Sinjska Alka: This festival is over 300 years old and is held in Sinj. Visit Split and see the festival participants jousting with each other with lances on horseback in a true medieval fashion. It is like traveling back in time.
  • Dubrovnik Summer Festival: This is one of the biggest festivities in the Mediterranean with weeks-long theatrical and musical performances throughout the ancient city of Dubrovnik.
  • Krk Sunrise Festival: Krk hosts a Venetian-style fair where festival-goers are dressed in medieval costumes. Attending this festival is a great opportunity to try traditional food and learn about the place’s culture and history.
  • Zrće Beach Festival: Pag Island becomes home to the largest music festival of its kind in Europe in August. Come and enjoy the underground music performances, which are staged on boats and in jubilant open-air clubs.
  • Beach season: With plenty of sunshine, August is one of the best times to enjoy a Croatian beach holiday. Zlatni Rat in Brac is the most popular beach destination while Punta Rata in Brela is a secluded crystalline paradise, perfect for a peaceful day at the beach. Bacvice, Kastelet and Trstenik in Split also have some of the best beaches.
