Sapa — Tour Highlights and Travel Tips

Trek in Sapa through the rice terraces and hills to local villages. Try your hand at batik, embroidery or cooking local dishes. Visit a market and haggle for ethnic souvenirs. Take the cable car to the top of Fansipan, Vietnam’s highest mountain, for spectacular views.

Tour Highlights

  • Sapa Culture Museum is a small but informative museum featuring exhibitions about Sapa’s local tribes.
  • Sapa market is the town’s traditional market, selling local produce (including live animals!) handicrafts and textiles.
  • Ham Rong Mountain Park is a small park where you can do a short hike to a lookout point for panoramic views of the town and surrounding area.
  • Fansipan is the tallest peak in Vietnam and a popular trekking spot located a short distance from Sapa.
  • The Muong Hoa Valley on the outskirts of Sapa is a popular trekking location, home to photogenic rice terraces, mountain scenery and small tribal villages.

Travel Tips

  • Avoid Sapa during the rainy season (June – September) when the town can become flooded and the trails are slippery.
  • Bring sturdy footwear and a rainproof jacket because the weather can be unpredictable and the trails muddy.
  • Leave the short shorts and crop tops in your hotel and dress modestly when visiting Sapa’s ethnic minority villages.
