Cycling was a great way to explore this region - beautiful countryside, picturesque villages and plenty to explore, eat and enjoy. I almost felt sorry for some of the busloads of tourists I saw - suddenly arriving in a village en masse and trucking off 30 minutes later. Cycling is the perfect to truly enjoy what this region offers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our self-guided Alsace by Bike trip. The scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed the quaint hillside towns through which we road. The bikes were new and in mint condition - no need to bring your own bike. We did bring our own helmets, pedals, and bike shoes and would do so again. The route kept us nicely away from cars and the information provided was detailed and fairly complete. We appreciated using .GPX files in Strava to aid in navigation. There were some sections where having a few more of the orange arrows to guide us would have been helpful. However, we got better at watching for the orange arrows over time. The hotel accommodations were stellar, the breakfast were fabulous, and the baggage transport was totally reliable. It was a memorable trip and we hope to do another self-guided bike trip in the next year or two.
The trip was lovely. We didn’t feel like any day was too hard. Our accommodations each night were more than adequate, very quiet, welcoming and with an amazing spread for breakfast. We were able to find our way with a combination of the downloaded gpx files and watching for the orange arrows on the routes. The bicycles seemed to be brand new and worked great for us. Seeing 12th century churches and vineyards and rolling hills…priceless!
