Explore the mystical Easter Island with our half-day tour to Orongo and Rano Kau. Discover ancient ceremonial villages, unique petroglyphs and the impressive crater of the Rano Kau volcano. Today we will start our adventure meeting at 09.00 am. Leaving from the meeting point in the center of Hanga Roa.
Rapa Nui, and one of the most accessible. Here we can see stylized drawings of birds, which represent the Manutara (terns), whose precious egg was the center of the annual competition from "Bird Man".
We will then visit the ceremonial center of Ahu Vinapu, where we can find large basalt slabs that fit in a similar way to the Inca constructions of Cuzco. We will not find this way of working with stone in any other corner of Polynesia.
After hearing a couple of local stories, we'll head out to see the Rano Kau volcano, which forms one of the three large cones that form part of the island`s surface, where there is a lagoon with small reed islands b>, abundant vegetation and microfauna.
Finally, we will visit the Ceremonial Village of Orongo, where the Bird Man Ceremony was held. This ceremony designated, together with the King, who would be the spiritual and political leader during the period of one year. This sacred character, who is represented as a shrunken man`s body and a large bird`s beak, is found engraved on a large number of stones.
After exploring Orongo, we will return to the town of Hanga Roa, you will have time for lunch and the afternoon free.
It will be a beautiful experience, full of culture, stories and memories.
