What an incredible experience! An expedition rather than a holiday, with a fantastic guide who found us swimming spots in lakes and rivers as well as guiding us expertly over challenging passes, through flower streets fields and smiling over 11 days of challenging but exhilarating hiking. Our camp wonder women was wonderful and made delicious dinners, was full of fun and helped us find everything from the milk to a picture perfect buvette in Zermatt. The group was great, and you need a great group for this trip as you are together a lot and it is challenging - 15 days hiking camping and enjoying the sun and mountains.
This was a great walk with varied terrain. The longer days were tough at times so be prepared with good shoes and water. We loved walking through beautiful countryside, villages and forests. The accommodation was good and the food excellent. We only briefly saw one other walking group during our trip and it was wonderful to have the paths to ourselves.
Hidden treasures aptly describes this lovely walk which crosses beautiful countryside and sleepy villages off the tourist track. With the exception of a few places, we sometimes barely saw a soul all day before arriving at our destinations. Access to GPS is recommended, as it’s easy to miss some paths. Several were very overgrown and muddy, so poles are suggested too. The accommodation was mostly a good standard and hosts were welcoming. As well as visiting many gorgeous villages, highlights were experiencing delicious regional cuisine (evening meals were excellent) and going underground at Gouffre de Padirac.
