The guide , the party and the walking was excellent. Very well pitched as a level 3. The hotel structure was fine but the food was the low point of the holiday. There was not even a bar in the hotel. Breakfast for all 7 days was a hard boiled egg, a slice of formed ham, a croissant and a decent supply of baguette...every day
The tour covers a lot in quite a short time. So, as you can guess, the pace is a quite fast and there is a decent amount of time spent on the bus in transit. That said, there is a perfect amount of time to do what you want to do, albeit with a little prior planning. There is a great combination of tour lead time and free time. The bus journey's aren't bad, ours was comfy enough to sleep, and the tour leader (Steve) was a font of knowledge when it came to the local history. Top tips: Bring motion sickness tablets for the ferry crossings. Bring a neck pillow for sleeping on the bus. Bring ear plugs or headphones, they help with sleeping too. Be aware of the time of year and the crowds already in the locations (we travelled at Christmas time). And to close out, the highlight of the tour was definitely the Jungfraujoch experience (well worth the optional extra fee). Not going to spoil it, you will have to go and find out for yourself.
All the key elements I look for in a trip …. mountains, hiking, camping, new friends, lots of laugh and tired legs; this trip definitely delivered! Add in some great weather, maybe a little rain, great food, beer, gelato and Uno … an all-round awesome trip!
