What a great time we had, a super group of fellow travellers and fantastic leader, cook and driver.WE SAW THE BIG FIVE which was in large part down to the crew and their game spotting.I had done this same trip years ago with Guerba, that trip was a participatory camping experience where we had to take turns cooking! This trip was complete luxury by comparison. Our cook Ivan was a trained pastry chef so our meals were a real treat especially the deserts. The campsites were in the main of a good standard and although our cheif aka Christopher apologised because there was no grass to pitch the tents on ( no suprise in the dessert) we soon got used to the sand. There was the flexibility to move on early to Swakomund when we were caught up in a bad sand storm which upended several of our tents. The Itinerary was well thought out. Our group of 12 was an ideal size as we could mainly have a window seat. There were lockers at the back of the truck in which we were able to lock up our valuables. Some journeys werelong but the scenery was so varied it was never boring. The real highlights are no doubt the game drives. Go on this tour if you can.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would recommend it for those looking for a combination of game watching and visiting amazing natural landscapes. We travelled from Cape Town to Victoria Falls and from the first day were spotting baboons, hyrax and penguins. By the time we reached the national parks further north, we had multiple sightings of (and a couple of close encounters with) lions, elephants, hippos, giraffe and a range of smaller game such as honey badgers and mongoose. The natural features such as Fish River Gorge and the Namibi sand dunes were also highlights. Our guide was the dedicated Misheck who worked tirelessly to get us around safely, deftly handling any unexpected scheduling changes to ensure we experienced as much as possible. Misheck was also incredibly knowledgeable. This trip is best done in the cooler months because the truck was not air-conditioned and became quite hot as we travelled north. Also be prepared for some long days travelling in the truck. Highly recommend it.

Brilliant itinerary. Very knowledgeable leaders. Comfy tents and easy to erect for novices like us! Amazingly good food and always plenty, lots veg and high quality meat. Hygiene regime in place.... very impressed. Lots of amazing experiences included, especially game drives. Possibility to upgrade at some campsites. Great to have a secure area so we did not have to worry about security of money/passports. The resident cook was a great asset. An amazing experience! So much better than we had anticipated.

Zimbabwe - Travel Highlights and Travel Tips

    Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Aerial view of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe

Better known as Victoria Falls, this legendary mass of water ranks among the largest and most awe-inspiring waterfalls on the planet. Considered to be the most famous sight of Zimbabwe, this is what travelers dream of when they first think about visiting the country. The mist generated by the falls sustains an entire ecosystem which comprises of trees like palm, fig and mahogany and the surrounding areas are home to falcons, raptors and black eagles. The falls can be seen from as far as 20 kms away, but the best experiences are always found up close.

    Tour Highlights

    • Hike the hills of Chimanimani Mountains National Park
    • Swim at the top of the world in Devil’s Pool, Victoria Falls
    • Go white water rafting on the Zambezi River
    • Look for rhinos in Matopos National Park
    • Bungee jump from Victoria Falls Bridge
    • Fish on Lake Kariba (but avoid the crocodiles!)

    Travel Tips

    • Get ready to see plenty of wildlife! Zimbabwe’s wild animals, including its elephants, are very curious and may come quite close as you travel through the country. Keep your calm and try not to disturb any animals that cross your path.
    • Time has no real meaning in Zimbabwe. “Zim time” is often understood according to the sun’s position in the sky, and even specific times are generally estimates. For example, someone asking to meet at 7am certainly wants to meet in the morning but could meet you anywhere from 7 am to 9 am.
    • Internet is not always available in Zimbabwe, even in urban hotels, and is certainly not as fast as you might be accustomed to. Consider buying a local sim card if you really need web access during your trip.
    • Nearly everyone in Zimbabwe speaks English, even in rural areas, so you won’t have much difficulty communicating with locals during your visit.
