Wonderful tour of Iceland I just wanted to let you know how happy we were with the travel package you and co-workers put together. We had no problems at all with the accommodations, and everything went quite smoothly with the vouchers. The inns were comfortable, and the car arrangements also went well. The extra time near Lake Myvatn allowed me to have a wonderful horseback ride and practice the "tolt" at Hestasport. Thankfully the storms didn't interfere with travel too much. It was a bit of a challenge communicating back and forth for the planning aspect, with the time and date differences, but we had a great trip and enjoyed Island a lot, amazing place! Thanks for your help.
The Stelkur trip around Iceland gave hearty servings of the history, culture, geology and ethos of this remarkable island. Sure, we all knew the island had volcanoes and glaciers, but I for one was not aware of the tremendous impact of glacial flooding on the island and its people. This trip hit so many high points that it was almost dizzying, from puffins and whale spotting to black sand beaches littered with remnants of icebergs, to seemingly countless waterfalls and glacier views, to vigorous and rewarding hikes, superb cooking by our guide, solitude on the hut to hut portions (we saw one other hiker during 4 days), tales of Icelandic heroes, trolls and elves. Our guide, Solvi, was a natural teacher, gifted storyteller and even sang us to sleep one night with an Icelandic lullaby. He surprised us often with little outings or touches that were not listed on the official itinerary and made us feel like we'd been let in on special secrets. We looked for kids rescuing young puffins who had not made it to water, tobogganed down a huge black sand dune, and snatched blueberries from the bushes that lined the trails as we hiked. There was magic in the air on this trip!
The land of fire and ice did not dissapoint Our Iceland winter tour was fantastic! The accommodations were simple yet comfortable, and the included meals were excellent. We explored a perfect mix of top sights and hidden gems, with a few lovely walks included. Winter roads were a bit challenging, and we did miss a few stops due to snowfall and road closures, but it made me grateful someone else was doing the driving. Our incredible tour leader shared fascinating Icelandic sagas and added personal touches for each of us. He even introduced us to a new "waterfall of the day" and tried to include little extras to make up for the missed stops, even though the weather was beyond anyone's control. We just missed the puffins by about a week, but we were lucky enough to catch a couple of great Northern Lights shows. Highly recommend this tour for an unforgettable winter adventure!
