A highly recommended trip! Our tour guide was Vanessa Villablanca. She picked us up at the hotel at 8 am. While we didn't book a private tour, it ended up just being our family of 4. She had a good vehicle that could handle the drive through the Cajon Del Maipo & Embalse El Yeso. Vanessa had great command of the points along the trip. She was so accommodating when we wanted to stop & get pics which we really appreciated. We went on a Saturday and unfortunately it was a long weekend for people of Santiago. As such it was PACKED. We left at 8 am and the drive was perfect up to about a 1/4 mile from Embalse El Yeso. TONS of car packed a very narrow dirt road making it virtually impassable. Luckily Vanessa had parked at the bottom of the entrance area, allowing us to avoid what would have been HOURS trying to get back down the hill. You do not want to do this drive yourself nor with a car that is not an SUV. Hire a driver. We had a little lunch which was very nice. Nothing like enjoying the beauty of the area. Vanessa set up a table and chairs. She is very personable and passionate for nature.
Discover Chile - An Excellent Introduction to a Stunning Country. This was an excellent trip. Having seen many stunning photographs of Chile, I went on the holiday with high expectations. I was not disappointed and indeed my expectations were exceeded. It is a truly stunning country with a huge variety of dramatic scenery, friendly people and interesting wildlife. This trip is a very good introduction to the country, covering a lot of territory in two weeks, allowing you to identify the bits to come back to with more time at a later date.
Discover Chile AAE 08/02/2016 A great 'over-view ' of this facinating and varied country. Lots of travelling. Almost a continent in one country. The tour was better than the Trip Notes implied - most of the 'optional' trips were actually included! The pre-travel information (itinerary) was not up to the usual high standard of the tour operator as far as we were concerned - although some other people on the trip did receive more detailed information (even though we asked for it!)
