August is the rainy season, but the early morning starts meant that we fitted a lot in before the impressive downpours that sometimes happened later in the day.
The range of wildlife we saw was astonishing; I'd picked this trip because of the visit to the Sloth Sanctuary, which was disappointing compared with the number of sloths that we saw in the wild. Our excellent guide was complemented by eagle eyed boat 'drivers' who also appeared to be keen and knowledgeable about wildlife and were ready and willing to nimbly propel the boats around to see something on the bank they had spotted: monkeys, lizards etc.
The accommodation, in places, was not 5 star, but had its own charm and there is not that I would not happily revisit for one reason or another, even the very friendly one in Cahuita with its temperamental showers but very friendly owner.
3 countries by bike in 2 weeks - do it!

This isn't just a cycling trip. There's so much more to this than you think... yeah, there's lots of cycling, but there are so many other activities too that it feels like an adventure holiday. The scenery changes dramatically over the various days, from arid land, to amazing beaches, rainforests, cloud forests, remote villages, downtime, uptime! I loved cycling through tropical rain. 3 countries in approx. 2 weeks is an awesome trip - our leader Roberto said that it's like having 3 moments in time. Nicaragua is the past. Costa Rica is the present and Panama is the future. You'll know exactly what he means as the days progress. A great saying for 3 great places. He also said Pura Vida which I will now adopt!
CYCLE NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA AND PANAMA

This was a great holiday and was much more than a cycling holiday- it included a raft trip, boat trips and the opportunity to go snorkelling, surfing or even more cycling. I have never seen so much wildlife on a holiday it seems that Central America is stuffed with animals, birds ... and mosquitos!
