This was one of the "birding" departure dates, with the emphasis obviously on seeing many of the 800-odd resident and migrant species found in Costa Rica. There were plenty of opportunities for birding but other wildlife was not ignored so don't let this put you off these dates if (like me) you aren't a serious bird watcher.
Brilliant family adventure

We travelled with children aged 11 and 14 and found ourselves in a lovely group of 4 families from across the UK. We totally lucked out with our amazing coach (and driver, Ohman) and our wonderful guide, Gustavo. Every day was different and we learned so much about where our food comes from, nature, and all types of wildlife. Accommodation was slightly basic at times but we coped and all pools were lovely. The 14 KM white water rafting is not to be missed and we also enjoyed the night walks and boat trips. Had an amazing trip on a catamaran and swam with tropical fish and the kids jumped off the boat back into the blue sea. We always felt very safe and well looked after by this tour operator.
Great trip, beautiful country, new friends...what more could you ask?

I read all previous reviews before booking and they were all useful information - if you are planning this trip I suggest you do likewise. I booked this as the dates suited me but we had a bird-watching expert and it was interesting to be part of a group some of whom were 'on a mission'. Despite the specialism I don't feel that we 'non-birders' missed out on anything and our guide also pointed out animals, gave information on culture, geography, etc. All in all a well paced trip and having two nights at each place meant less pressure to pack up every morning.
