It is diverse in terms of climate, type of rain forest, topography and ,Eco systems. you see The Caribbean and the Pacific,You experience High mountains ,volcanic areas ,pristine sandy beaches and huge range of mammals and birds.
The food In all the places we stayed and in the local restaurants was great if you are a meat and fish eater.
The accommodation excellent with contrasts between the Eco lodges and the small hotels which are you appreciate both !,
Central America - So Much to Discover! If you are considering this trip, do not hesitate! It is a wonderful introduction to three very diverse countries. If you like variety, this is the trip for you -- each of the countries is distinct, but there are few similarities from one stop to the other.
As well, there is a lot of variety in the activities beyond cycling, including: visits to a coffee plantation and a family-run chocolate making spot ... river rafting ... zip-lining above and through the cloud and rain forest ... Panama Canal visitors center ... animal rescue / rehabilitation facility just to name a few. So, it is not only about cycling, but obviously that is the focus and the means of moving from one destination to the next.
The cycling is demanding--yes ... but not so much that the average person cannot feel comfortable on this trip and there are always options if the hill climbing is too much. The benefits of being close to nature and to people are something that can only be experienced on a bike. You won't feel exhausted - but you will have a pleasant "GOOD TIRED" feeling each night. Every morning I was enthusiastic to get back on the bike for what we had to discover that day.
The drivers and guides were mostly exceptional, especially Dany and Felipe. Joe at La Selva, Sebastian in Tortuguero, Jesus at Monteverde and Jose at Corcovado were also brilliant guides. We were less impressed by those on the Cano Island snorkeling trip and didnt like the Arenal guide asking for tips on both trips (we would voluntarily). Accommodation was very nice, especially Cala Lodge, Las Caletas and Suria. We were impressed with the itinerary, the organisation/timings and all the bookings were fine. Some questions were asked about the return boat vouchers to Sierpe when they requested cash however this was resolved. The only place we wouldnt return to is Dominical as it didnt have the same safe and friendly feeling. Overall we really enjoyed it and hope to come back to Costa Rica and would use GWA again.
