Cycling in Sardinia was great! Sardinia is a great location for a cycling holiday. The coastline is dramatic, the countryside is attractive and people are very pleasant and helpful. The week was well organised and managed by our 2 guides. The food is delicious and we enjoyed regular water/ fruit/ snack/ coffee/ gelato stops. Day 2 was the toughest for me as there were a few challenging uphills. The effort was worth it, however, as we stayed in an excellent agrotourism establishment and the next morning the long freewheel downhill back to the coast was tremendous! I did the trip in the low season - the last week in May and at the beaches/roads were very quiet, apart from in a couple of places near to towns and in these places a mini bus transfer was arranged.
Great trip, fantastic guide, hotel could be better The walks have a nice mix of challenging and easy with lovely views and points of interest. The additional sight seeing and wine tasting really added to the trip.
The only thing that let it down a bit was the location of the hotel. The hotel itself is ok but there is nowhere nice to sit when we got back from the walks, the little terrace with uncomfortable chairs doesn't count, and there is nothing really to do in Dorgali. This meant we all just retired to our rooms until dinner which was a bit boring. Also the breakfasts and lunches were very dull.
A hotel in Calla Gonone for example would be much better. Then guests could go to the beach and have a swim in the sea after their walks and on the free day
Walking the Amalfi Coast. ..in steps Really enjoyable holiday in a very friendly family run hotel with just the right amount of walking to discover the highlights of this beautiful coast, alongside a coach trip to fabulous Pompeii and a walk around the rim of Vesuvius.
