Great Trekking Experience!

Amazing for those on a Tight Timeframe

My friend and I completed the 9 day Everest Base Camp trek with Chopper Return. We had amazing time with this local operator and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to organise a Base Camp trek. Our restricted holidays from work meant that the 14 day trek was not possible for us. For those on a tight timeframe, this is the perfect trek. For small extra fee to cover the cost of a helicopter return, we saved 5/6 days by choosing this trip. We thought the extra cost was more than justified even to experience the helicopter ride alone! Overall the trek was very well organised. Khum (Director of the operator) was in close contact with us at all times. His communication was outstanding. Any queries that we had, he was always there to help and he replied instantly. When we began our trek, we experienced two days of cancelled fights due to bad weather conditions at Lukla airport. This can frequently happen so please account for it in your travel itinerary. Khum kept in contact with us all along the way and organised travel to and from the airport on all occasions, which was amazing. He was also very kind to treat us to dinner after our flights were cancelled on one of the days. After the second day of cancelled flights, we decided to get a helicopter to Lukla airport to avoid wasting another day where flights could potentially be cancelled again. Please be careful when booking the helicopter. The companies can often overcharge. We paid 500USD each, but after talking to other trekkers we realised that we were grossly overcharged. We informed Khum of our situation and he managed to sort it out and get us 150USD each. Big thanks to Khum for getting this sorted. From here on we experienced zero issues. Dawa was our guide. He was absolutely fantastic cannot recommend him enough. He is young, but has lots of experience and his English is brilliant. He is also a lot of fun! I did notice that some other guides did not have as good English as ours, which may be something to look out for. If you ask for Dawa to be your guide, you wont be disappointed. He knew everyone along the way on the trek which was a big help. This helped us to get into nicer lodges along the way and also get extra servings of food (this was a big deal!). His knowledge of the trek, the mountains and the history was great. He also introduced us to many of his friends and we spent time hanging out with them. Dawa really helped to make our experience very memorable thank you so much again for everything. In terms of the trek itself, make sure not to skip the acclimatisation days. These are extremely significant. I met some people who were behind schedule due to their cancelled flights and wanted to make up time. As a result, they skipped their acclimatisation days, which was not good. They quickly developed symptoms of altitude sickness which set them back. Another piece of advice is to ensure that you climb Kalapatthar. This is higher than Base Camp (you cant see Everest from Base Camp!!) but you get AMAZING views of Everest at the oeak of Kalapatthar. Well worth the extra trek. Other than this, the helicopter journey home went perfectly. The helicopter arrived on time and brought us to Lukla. From there we got a plane back to Kathmandu with no issues at all a great way to end the trek. Again, I would have no hesitation in recommending the operator (and our guide Dawa) to anyone. Khum was extremely professional in his dealings with us this was evinced especially when unexpected circumstances arose (e.g. cancelled flights, helicopter overcharge etc.). You can be assured that you will be well looked after in his capable hands. Thanks for everything Khum and Dawa!

The most extraordinary trip for so many reasons…… This was an incredible trek, demanding at times but well worth the effort. Our team leader Sibul was extremely thoughtful and was a fantastic leader. The team in support was spot on, helpful and always willing to help. The food and refreshments were plentiful and always well prepared and varied. I can’t praise this trip enough, I may even repeat it next year! The help from the UK office was also excellent, no hard sell just genuine interest in finding you the right trip. If you go, train well and prepare to have your expectations exceeded!
