Trekked ABC in April 2017. Had an excellent trip with seven other trekkers (three couples and another single woman), two excellent guides: Anurag Basnet and Sandeep Budhathoki, and four great porters, especially Raj and Solu Kariki. Met with Chhatri Karki (owner of our local tour agency) the day after I arrived in KTM and departed on ABC trek the following morning. 12 day trek out of Pokhara. Guides were very professional and cared very deeply for the welfare of their clients. The porters were awesome and I was allowed to walk at a quicker pace along with two of the faster porters. They really took great care of me, making sure I rested and stayed hydrated. The scenery was spectacular and I only encountered snow as we approached base camp the day prior to reaching basecamp. The tour operator provided me with a down sleeping bag, down jacket and trekking poles. I was able to use lightweight sneakers which dried easily overnight when wet. The guest houses were lovely and the food was more than adequate. I would highly recommend Chhatri and his company!
It was a very difficult trek, but worth it. I work on a lot on my endurance, but it all depends on how your body responds to the altitude. I did not take diamox instead ginkgo biloba. Truly did helped.
One of the easier treks for those of us not used to the altitude and climbing It was much harder for us than I thought it would be. We are two inexperienced trekkers, over 40, living at sea level in a very flat part of the United States (Florida) If I had known how tough it was going to be I might not have attempted it but so glad that we did. The views were worth it. And the sense of accomplishment is overwhelming. My knees may never forgive me but my eyes and memory will be thanking me for a lifetime.
