Central America on two wheels A challenging and very enjoyable two weeks. Three very different countries in a short space of time. You will feel hot, dirty and tired - but stick with it - there is so much to enjoy! The cycling is challenging, and it does get easier - but do your training. The pace can be frantic - sometimes the hotels pass in a blur, arriving at dusk and then leaving early in the morning. But it is worth it to get such a great snapshot of Central American life.
MUC, 3 countries in 2 weeks! 4 and a half stars really. A packed itinerary, you can do visit 3 countries, do wildlife spotting, sightseeing, walks, swimming in the Caribbean, Pacific and lakes, boat trips, and even zip lining, as well as the usual cycling, eating and drinking! 3 countries with contrasts, old and modern parts and a huge mixture of people. The cycling is challenging with some climbs, mainly on road and long hot flat sections which can be done at pace if you want, even in 30c+ however I personally would have preferred a bit more off road terrain.
This was a great trip which we really enjoyed. It was described as 'moderate/challenging', which related to the 'undulations' and sometimes dirt tracks upon which we cycled, and some of the 'normal' roads and paved roads were a little rough. Having said that, we all managed OK. Additionally, the trip was 'full on' with some early starts, some late meals and other activities such as boat trips, and other options too. No two days were the same, variety was the key. There were 16 of us on this trip, ranging in age from 32-69 (which was me!) with two couples (all in their sixties) the rest friends/singles, and a majority of women.
