Beautiful island, great walks

There's a huge variety of scenery on La Palma and this week gave us a taste of everything. The walks aren't especially long but there's quite a lot of ascent and descent so I'd agree with the grade 4 rating. Although part of the Canary Islands there's often a bit of cooling cloud about and it didn't feel too hot for walking. The accommodation was all good; six nights in aparthotels with lots of space, one in a regular hotel. The tour leader Henry was excellent, knew a lot about the island's culture, geology and wildlife and was really friendly and approachable.

I enjoyed the tour. The total region was rather extensive, requiring a lot of driving time. Luisa, the bus driver, Marco, the tour director, and the local guides were all courteous and patient. A trip focusing on two or three metro regions with more local activities might be an additional option.

I really enjoyed this trip. The walking was probably closer to challenging overall than moderate, as almost every day involved vigorous and often very long climbs and descents, sometimes on difficult surfaces.
