This was a great walking week. The scenery in the Picos is spectacular and the walks a good variety building up over the week. This lesser-known area of Spain was very rewarding and Arenas was an excellent base.

Stars aligned for this trip, Outstanding Lead, Landscape, hosts and crew. Our guide Dan, had a bit of style and swagger. instilled confidence in all the group making all the walks of Sierra Nevada a stroll in the park. Hotel Los Berchurles a welcome retreat full of charactor and warmth. Wendy, Shelia, Alejandro and Omar, all served us well. Our fellow guests was the final part in the alignment and it was great to share anniversaries, quizs, horse wrestling with them all.

A fairly gentle week's walking though I'd imagine it would be a lot harder in the heat of summer. We had torrential rain on the first day's walk (unusual) but the weather after that was a very pleasant at 25 to 30 degrees C. The atmosphere at the farmhouse was very relaxed, and it was lovely not to have to worry about room keys (you're in the countryside, a long way from crime and annoyances). It's worth noting that the days are relatively short, so there is fair amount of time spent back at the farmhouse in the afternoon waiting for dinner at 8pm - fine if you like relaxing, not so good if you like to be active.
