On the whole we had a pleasant experience. The hotels were good, the scenery was fine and we enjoyed sampling the wines of the region. The only drawback was the weight of the bikes which were much heavier than our own.

We cycled this route in May 2016 and we had a wonderful time. The cycle route is well maintained, the navigation was very clear with the resources provided and the scenery was spectacular. Vienna was a suiting end to a very scenic trip.A great first self-guided cycling trip to try.

Some parts of the tour were planned quite badly with time. For example, leaving hotel at 7:30am, driving 1hr to a stop where we were given way too much time and there's nothing to do. Some places not enough time. Another example, arriving at our 'lunch stop' at 10:30, leaving at 12:15 where most of the restaurants open at 11:30 or later. Also leaving at 4:30pm, arriving at 5pm, wait 1hr on the coach for an activity starting at 6pm, only got back at 9pm for dinner. There's a lot more cases like this, not considerable time allocations and bad time planning. The guide also talks way too much on the coach leaving not much time for napping or resting. Most of the things she talks about are repeated again by the local guide. Room arrangements are also frustrating. Friends traveling together always get rooms very far away from each other. My husband and I always get twin beds where we requested double beds.
