We were a party of four adults and one child who ended up on an unplanned Landmannalaugar superjeep tour with Midgard. We had originally booked with another company who didn't turn up as arranged. When we contacted them they called in Midgard to help and they were with us in about half an hour and provided a superb day. Our guide was Atti who was professional, informative and good company. It was slightly restrictive having a five year old on such a long outing but nothing phased Atti and we managed to see the varied and beautiful terrain and have a good soak in the river. On other days we also popped into their new building Base Camp which is great and provided a warm welcome, a good lunch and some helpful tips.
This was a four night tour that really packed a punch.
As well as the chance of seeing the Northern Lights we saw glaciers, ice caves, geysers, lagoons, waterfalls, the black beach etc, etc
My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (hes a busy father and Im a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea, added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). Basecamp is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I cant recommend them more.
