Incredible first taste of Iceland After a 4 hour flight delay and miserable weather the first morning, our luck changed and we had glorious sunny weather for the rest of the trip which showed a wintry Iceland off in all its glory. Although the trip is short, a lot is packed in and we did and saw more than I'd anticipated. The scenery really was stunning and I would love to go back in summer to explore further. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip to others, although I think the weather can have a really big impact on how enjoyable it will be.
Well organized tour with excellent guide and driver The tour was excellent from beginning to end. Our first orientation meeting was efficient and well organized that set the stage for the trip that was flawless in execution. We were lucky to have a good group of compatible folks and all of the destinations were interesting and worthwhile. The pace was very good and enough time was spent when needed. The hotels were very good and the meals mostly at our expense were above expectation often prepared with quality chef skills. The only flaw was the bus was compact and a challenge to get on and off multiple times with backpacks and all but eventually we learned to manage and switched seats during the trip so everything worked out OK
My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (hes a busy father and Im a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea, added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). Basecamp is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I cant recommend them more.
