Had a brilliant holiday, saw so much, but the trip title is a misnomer. Not sure what the odds are of seeing the northern lights in 4 nights, but unlikely to be more than 50:50
Iceland was our 6th trip with the tour operator. We have seen so many wonderful places. Iceland is so special because it is truly a land of fire and ice. Where can you go to see magnificent waterfalls and on the same hike arrive at a view of a glacier? Where can you visit a volcano, geyser and just a few miles away witness icecaps with glaciers flowing from them? How about a black beach with icebergs floating and resting on the beach? ICELAND is the answer! The hut to hut hiking experience with the fjords and every changing mountain terrain and view was a thrill to experience. All of these make for a great tour but what makes it a memory of a lifetime are the people and experiencing the culture. I cannot say enough about our guide Thora. She sang Icelandic songs, taught us a dance, told us some of the sagas. Most of all she shared her love of Iceland. It was an unforgettable experience.
The land of fire and ice did not dissapoint Our Iceland winter tour was fantastic! The accommodations were simple yet comfortable, and the included meals were excellent. We explored a perfect mix of top sights and hidden gems, with a few lovely walks included. Winter roads were a bit challenging, and we did miss a few stops due to snowfall and road closures, but it made me grateful someone else was doing the driving. Our incredible tour leader shared fascinating Icelandic sagas and added personal touches for each of us. He even introduced us to a new "waterfall of the day" and tried to include little extras to make up for the missed stops, even though the weather was beyond anyone's control. We just missed the puffins by about a week, but we were lucky enough to catch a couple of great Northern Lights shows. Highly recommend this tour for an unforgettable winter adventure!
