Although we were unable to see the Northern Lights due to the overcast conditions this did not detract from the fact that this was a real Icelandic experience that we thoroughly enjoyed. Excellent program of things do and see let by Orri our very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and friendly guide. His knowledge of Icelandic history and Icelandic tales added to the enjoyment of the trip. The variety of the program and timings meant that we had lots to do and see avoiding more busy times of the popular locations. The hotel Laki which we stayed in for two nights was especially nice and well located.
Unpredictable fun in the land of incredible landscapes This trip was a fantastic and fun adventure from start to finish. I had no idea what to expect from the trip and was not used to cold weather climates but the unpredictable changes in the weather just added to the excitement. The itinerary was packed full of amazing sights including beautiful waterfalls, thermal geysirs, an iceberg lagoon, black sandy beaches, a swim in the blue lagoon and so much more. We also got looked after well each and every day, and where the planned schedule had to be adapted due to severe weather conditions, I still had an amazing time.
My son and I did the Northern Lights Tour. This was a rare chance to spend some time together (hes a busy father and Im a retired 71 year old). We wanted something a little different that we could both enjoy and Midgard offered a tour that seemed to suit, couple with more than a hint of adventure. We were not disappointed. Midgard is a family run business and clearly values the personal touch. Our four days were varied, interesting and fun. The sightseeing was ably organised by our driver and guide, Bjarni, who kept us both informed and entertained (he is a classically trained singer, as well!). His border collie, Krea, added to the enjoyment. The highlights for me were the glacier climb and ice field walk and seeing the northern lights (this was facilitated by one of the owners getting out of bed and driving us to the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night to maximise the view). Basecamp is funky, functional and the food is excellent. I cant recommend them more.
