If you’re looking for a genuine cultural experience, Maramures in the far north is an immensely rewarding destination. Famed for their handicrafts and hospitality, visitors can get an authentic glimpse of traditional life. Woodworking has a strong heritage here and is evident in the intricately carved gates found on many homes and of course, the famous wooden churches—eight of which are UNESCO-listed.
