Central Andes: The Trip of a Lifetime
Central Andes: The Trip of a Lifetime

Peru has been attracting millions of visitors and tourists for years. After all, the country does have a lot to offer. It is a hiker’s dream, and the adventure of a lifetime for history buffs. However, there is one portion of the beautiful Andes that is much less explored — the Central Andes.

Lying between Huaraz and Cusco, this area has some of the most stunning views to offer, and some of the greatest escapades in the world. The best part is that it hasn’t turned into a tourist bait yet, so you will get to explore it at your own pace, without having to worry about fighting off throngs of people!

Are you ready to explore the path less taken? Let’s step into some of Central Andes’ greatest spots!

Las Salinas Grandes: A Scenic Day Trip
Las Salinas Grandes: A Scenic Day Trip

Located in the provinces of Salta and Jujuy in northwestern Argentina, Salinas Grandes is a vast white desert that stretches for more than 200 square kilometers into the horizon. Stunning and spectacular, the Salinas Grandes is the third largest salt flat in the world and the largest in Argentina.

This immense and expansive desert was once Lago Salinas Grandes, a lake that evaporated in the Holocene due to its location some 3350 meters above sea level. Today, this half-meter thick crust of salt dazzles visitors thanks to its seemingly never-ending enormity and its blinding contrast between the brilliant blue sky and the glowing white crust.

Explore the breathtaking scenery on your tour to Argentina and experience the stunning and fantastic beauty of Las Salinas Grandes.

Roberto was an excellent tour leader with a wealth of information about architecture, history, flora and fauna. He was a walking Google! He was enthusiastic and made the tour a lot of fun. He was also genuinely caring of each one of us (always carrying water and reminding us to hydrate and apply sun block, among other things!) The highlights of the tour include Cuicocha lake, Cotopaxi volcano, Mindo, and most definitely the Galapagos for its abundance of animals. Everyday was a new adventure during the 2 week tour. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Excellent Salkantay Trek with Alpaca Expedition

One of the most unforgettable trips of my life. The Salkantay trek was breathtaking — snow-capped peaks, changing landscapes, and finally arriving at Machu Picchu made every step worth it. Alpaca Expedition handled every detail, from camping to meals, so we could just enjoy the journey.

This was one of our best vacation/trips. Insight Vacations did an excellent job with our itinerary and the amount of places we visited and things we did. Really saw a lot of the cultural that we would have missed as just a tourist on our own. Hotels and food were the best. Bring a 220V converter for the room and a phone charging cord with a USB end as that was what is available on most busses and train.

Arturo was an amazing guide. Knowledge was exceptional and very helpful especially when some guests felt unwell. His patience and sense of humour also added to a first class trip,

I had a wonderful adventure in Peru . Our lovely group saw interesting and exciting things every day. The food and accommodation were excellent and the transport was spacious and comfortable. The experience was greatly enhanced by the humour and patience of our excellent tour leader Julio Cezar Yabar - we all appreciated his hard work and professionalism. A highlight for me was seeing condors in Colca Canyon. Thank you Explore . I will travel with you again
