Australia is as diverse as it is large. Tour the outback and explore the country’s vast remote interior (don't miss the iconic Uluru Rock formation) before heading to the Gold Coast for some of the world’s best surfing. Finish your trip with an incredible diving experience at the Great Barrier Reef, or head to Sydney to see the famous Opera House and Bondi Beach.

What makes Australia unique compared to other destinations?

Australia stands out for its extraordinary mix of natural wonders, ancient culture, and vibrant modern cities. From colourful coral reefs and ancient rainforests to the red outback, iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and world-famous beaches such as Bondi, it offers an incredible variety of experiences in one destination. Add to that the world’s oldest continuous Indigenous culture, and Australia feels unlike anywhere else.

Australia's Hidden Gem

One lesser-known, off-the-beaten-path destination in Australia and why is it special?

Lake MacDonnell on the Eyre Peninsula is a hidden gem known for its striking bright pink waters. Its unusual colours and remote setting make it one of Australia’s most memorable off-the-beaten-path sights.

Australian Way of Life

What are some key cultural insights you think travelers should know before arriving in Australia?

Travelers should know that Aboriginal Australians are the First Peoples of Australia and belong to one of the world’s oldest continuous cultures, with a history stretching back tens of thousands of years. There are many distinct language groups and cultural traditions across the country, each with deep connections to the land. Learning about and respecting Indigenous culture adds real depth to any trip to Australia.

Tips for Australia Travel

Are there any common mistakes travelers make when visiting Australia that they could avoid?

One common mistake is underestimating Australia’s size and the travel distances between destinations. Another is assuming Australia and New Zealand are closely interchangeable—they are very different countries with their own identities, despite some similarities like their flags.

Each year, whales migrate up Australia’s east coast from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to their mating and calving grounds in the Coral Sea. Whale sightings in Sydney are common, as around 15,000 whales swim past Sydney annually, making the whale-spotting season an unusually long one. Anyone who has been whale watching in Sydney during this annual migration cannot help but be entranced by these majestic giants romping in warm waters. Visitors can readily see the famous humpbacks and southern right whales from onboard a whale watching cruise, from the air on a scenic charter flight, from a cliff top trail on North and South Head, and even occasionally from the shore, as the ever-curious whales are known to swim right inside Sydney Harbour.

Honest insights from past guests on our Australia tours

This was a marvellous trip. The 🚌was very capable and comfortable; the driver was excellent; the guide was incredible and the route was amazing. All accomodation and food was good. I would have no reservations in recommending AAT-Kings for this trip to anyone considering travelling to the SA outback - particularly this year (2026) as the heavy rains have promoted growth and life not seen for a generation.

We weren't too sure about travelling in a coach, but the urge to see Lake Eyre in full flood was stronger and AAT Kings SA Outback Adventue was the perfect trip to do so. The communications were frequent and helpful, the paperwork explaining the trip and the sights we would see was informative. And then there were our guides Anna and Terry (Driver). They, together with our fellow travellers, made the trip so much fun and enjoyable. Cannot thank them enough! Every aspect of the trip was good, from the travel spiel, to the places we visited, the people we travelled with, the people we met along the way, the sights you see (amazing!!!!), and the food you eat. Every time we hear Sweet Caroline from here on in will remind us of this wonderful trip. And you know your trip was the best when you really don't want to farewell your fellow travellers and your guides.

We very much enjoyed our vacation in Australia and particularly appreciated all the effort and knowledge offered by Tony, our guide. We were thankful for his help when Dianne had a minor injury as he got us help and still kept the other travelers on course. Enjoyed it all and maybe most of all, the Great Barrier Reef experience.

This was a bucket list trip that we very much enjoyed. You never realize how large Australia is until you have to be on 11 airplanes for your trip. The trip to Uluru was very good, however, we felt like the order of travel could have been better arranged as we lost two days of travel getting there and back. The camel ride was excellent. We very much enjoyed Sydney, the Opera House, the bridge climb, and the national aboriginal guide that shared much information. Carin’s was a great experience, as scuba diving on the great barrier reef was a life list fulfilled. We are experienced divers and would have liked to have had a better experience there. Melbourne was beautiful and we so much enjoyed everything we did there. Wayne, our guide, gave us excellent suggestions as to things to see on our own. We loved New Zealand and would like to return there at some point. The flight that we took over the glaciers to return to our hotel was disappointing as our pilot did not share anything that we could see. We loved Mount Cook and that complete experience overnight. Wayne was so very knowledgeable in sharing everything about Australia and New Zealand. We also did the extension to Fiji. The Crowne Plaza resort was lovely, the excursions showed the Third World country that Fiji is. Fiji is a beautiful place, but it was not at all what I expected. The captain Cook excursion there was very nice. We also did scuba on that excursion, which was also disappointing. All in all, it was a beautiful trip that we are glad we experienced.

The tour was very enjoyable. Meeting great people enjoying nice meals and wine. The Great Ocean road was a great experience also the Remarkable rocks and Admirable Arch on Kangaroo island. The Tour Operator was excellent and attentive to people's needs. This is my second tour with AAT Kings and would tour with them again.

The logistics involved in moving 50 people across 3 cities with flights and hotels seems impossible. But AAT kings and our guide Tony made it seem easy. Culture, history, humour, planes, trains and automobiles. We loved the whole experience. Thank you Tony our amazing guide and the whole behind the scenes team.
