Why Choose Solo Tours?

Solo tours are an affordable, sociable, safe, and hassle-free way for single travelers to explore.

Make new friends

Make new friends

Making friends as an independent solo traveler isn’t easy. Before long, loneliness creeps in, and you start craving human companionship. But with our solo tours, you’ve got a small friendly group of adventurous souls to share the experience with. Chances are you’ll meet plenty of people with similar ages and interests, making it easy to form meaningful connections.

Safety and security

Safety and security

Independent travel can be risky, especially for women or anyone visiting high-crime destinations like South America and Africa. A solo tour lets you leave home on your own and travel with the security of an organized tour. Your expert local guide will safely navigate the host country, warning of any potential hazards that may arise. That leaves you far less susceptible to scams, theft, assault and other nasty travel mishaps.

Easy on the wallet

Easy on the wallet

While a solo tour will likely be pricier than independent travel, it’s still considerably cheaper than joining a private tour. Sharing expenses—such as transport, accommodation, and guides—among a group helps keep costs low. Plus, as they typically cater for singles, our solo tours offer a friendlier, more sociable vibe.

Hassle-free travel

Hassle-free travel

Independent travel is hard work. You’ll need to reserve airfares, book hotels, navigate foreign transportation systems, and overcome language barriers. All that extra effort means your vacation is nowhere near as relaxing as it should be. But on a solo tour, the company will handle everything on your behalf. You can focus on savoring the sights and fostering new friendships while your guide takes care of the tricky logistics.

How We Curate Our Solo Tours

Solo but not alone

While our solo journeys celebrate independence, they also prioritize safety. Join a group itinerary—which 77% of our solo tours are—and be in the company of fellow solo travelers. 76% of our solo trip packages are full-guided, availing you the option to be with a knowledgeable local guide. And if you want to experience a destination truly by yourself, 17% of our singles trips are self-guided where freedom is paired with 24/7 support of an experienced, trusted team.

Twin-sharing accommodation

Nearly all our solo tours include twin-sharing rooms, pairing you with a same-gender fellow traveler. Enjoy the camaraderie and comfort of a shared space, at double-room rates, while connecting with other solo explorers.

Single supplement available also

Your spot on our solo tour is always priced at the twin-share rate. However, you can of course pay a single supplement fee when you want your own room. Simply request private accommodations and pay the applicable single-supplement fee, which varies by hotel category and operator. This transparent approach lets you decide whether to save on costs by sharing or upgrade to a private room for added privacy.

Cost-effective

Join our solo adventures for a fraction of the cost of fully private tours—no need to shoulder all expenses alone for guides, transport, accommodation, or activities. When compared to backpacking solo, our group-based solo trips cost slightly more, but offer greater safety, local expertise, and seamless logistics. It’s solo travel made smarter, safer, and still budget-friendly.

Free time for solo exploration

Where are the “solo” moments in these adventures? There are plenty. Each itinerary is planned with ample unscheduled hours and even a couple of days to let you wander, discover, and immerse yourself in the destinations at your own pace and through activities of your choice.

I thought the itinerary for this trip was good. Warsaw, Wrocław & Kraków are lovely cities. I would suggest that Auschwitz is added to the itinerary as the majority of the group had booked the trip to visit there. Even with the links provided by Explore, and booking far in advance, one member of our group ended up having to leave the hotel at 2:30am to queue for hours to get tickets. I think if Explore organised this, it would make things much easier for everyone. The traditional Jewish dinner with music was an absolute highlight for me, make sure that stays on the itinerary! The Salt mine was incredible & the Gnome hunting was also fun. While our tour leader was a lovely person, this was her first time doing the trip, which meant things were not always what I've come to expect from an Explore tour leader. She seemed a bit disorganised at times, we didn't get a proper introduction and she didn't always communicate to the entire group. At one point we were having a walking tour and I didn't even realise, I had been told it was later and that this was the walk to lunch! I'm sure though with a few tours under her belt this will change. The local tour guide we had in Wrocław was excellent, very funny. No complaints about the accommodation. The place we stayed in Wrocław, which had been changed last minute, was a bit quirky but not unpleasant. A note about the food, the portions are very large, so you might not spend as much money on food as you would expect. I would recommend this trip but just be aware that some of it is very emotional at times, due to the nature of the places you visit. For the free time in Warsaw, I would suggest visiting the Rising museum. I also did the optional excursion to the Ksiaz Castle in Wrocław which was well worth a visit.

An excellent trip, with the highlight being the mountain gorillas, but there was far more to this trip than I was expecting. The walking safari was also excellent, we were very close to giraffes. There are a lot of cultural experiences in this trip, which are excellent as you get to see how the local communities benefit from tourism and learn about their background. However, these all come with purchasing opportunities 'please buy from us and support this project' etc etc. So beware - do not do all your shopping at the first project! Hotels were better than expected in most cases, however the Kampala hotel could be improved on. It was very noisy with music noise most of the night.

It was a very nice Itinerary some of the stops were a bit higher paced than expected. The Hotel’s were great and our tour guide Vanessa was absolutely wonderful. She was extremely knowledgeable and gracefully helped a few of us with issues we had.

It goes to a great range of places, each with their own unique history. The sites visited are all amazing and worth seeing. The people in each place are welcoming and proud of their history.

Excellent….i think a few less catherdrals and a little more time in Porto, Lisbon and Costa de Sol Betty, our guide could not have been more accomadating. She was very articulate and always informative wherever or whatever we wished to know Overall, great tour

The itinerary includes all important towns and events, the cathedrals and the Count's private home are only two of the historical items to mention. The Unesco sites are an important part of the tour itinerary. It seems that on this tour Everyone took park in the optional events, so I think that's important to keep as well. Ernesta included extra information which is one of the reasons we travel with Insight. She was very prepared each day and actually several days ahead Ernesta filled everyone in with what we were doing and how long it would be. Driver Antonio handled the bus exceptionally well and was so polite.

Tips for traveling independently

Tread carefully

Traveling independently to a new destination comes with risks. As nobody is there to look after you, you’ll need to take responsibility for your own safety. Avoid dodgy parts of town, especially at night, and wear a money belt to protect your valuables from pickpockets. Don’t drink too much and stick to well-established transport providers. Travel insurance is a must.

Keep a flexible schedule

Allow plenty of time in your itinerary to cater for unexpected occurrences like foul weather and flight delays. You can book expensive, high-demand services like international flights and bucket-list tours in advance. However, leave your itinerary as open as possible so you can wing it.

Learn the lingo

Memorizing a few basic phrases of the local language can streamline everyday transactions. In countries where English is seldom spoken, download and learn how to use a translation app. Hotel receptionists can often help with language difficulties and provide useful local information in English.

Get connected

Internet access is crucial as a solo traveler, so grab a data SIM card from the airport as soon as you arrive (or get an e-SIM ahead of time). With a reliable 4G connection, you can navigate using online maps, use ride-sharing apps, book accommodation or transport, check current exchange rates, and more.

Watch out for scams

As an independent traveler, you won’t have a guide to warn you about regional scams, so you’ll need to take measures to protect yourself. Research the most common scams in your destination and learn how to avoid them. Treat overly friendly locals who stop you in the street with skepticism.

Don't overpack

Depending on where you go, you’ll lug your luggage onto trains, into taxis, and across cobblestoned streets. Packing light makes travel a whole lot less stressful, so think hard about whether you need that extra pair of shoes. Many solo travelers like to use carry-on luggage to reduce weight, skip the airport carousel, and save on airline fees.
