Favorite Destinations
Born and raised in the Canadian suburbs, I traded comfort for adventure after earning degrees in English and education. I’ve lived and worked across four continents in places like Paraguay, South Korea, Kuwait, and Malawi. I recently spent nearly a decade in Nepal, where I built a family and took holidays trekking in the Himalayas or exploring the beaches of Thailand.
I now reside under the big skies of Southwestern Canada, between the prairies and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. When not planning my next adventure or zoning into the computer screen for work, I enjoy getting outside and exploring nature, reading actual books, and camping with my family.
How did you get into travel
After travelling and living internationally for education, work, and adventure, I leaned on my language skills and academic background to build a writing and editing career. A versatile editor, I have worked across industries, including nonprofits, small businesses, government, higher education, and publishing.
My expertise in travel content is informed by my own globe-trotting experiences and a commitment to socially and environmentally conscious work. I have been an editor with Bookmundi since 2015, crafting travel content for diverse, global audiences.
Alison's unique travel experience
I have so many! Each is a humbling reminder of our planet's vast humanity and incredible diversity—and how fortunate I am to experience even a fraction of it. A few unforgettable moments: a heart-pounding, high-speed chase with an illegal cabbie in Accra; spotting wild lions in Kruger National Park; being drenched by the thunderous spray of Iguazu Falls; sharing a home-cooked Malawian meal with a local friend’s family in Cape MaClear; seeing Mount Everest up close while battling altitude sickness; and ringing in New Year’s with my family on a quiet Thai beach.
